This is one of the best Calvin & Hobbeses, because it jiggles the whole perspective. Generally, everyone else treats Hobbes as a stuffed toy. Calvin never seems to get what they mean when they allude to it. To him, Hobbes is a real person (tiger). But Calvin tips his hand here a bit. Maybe he realizes Hobbes could be a toy after all. C&H is plenty surreal, but this one is metasurreal; surreal to the established surreality of the strip.
I guess I’m saying I’m always a little loopy when Hobbes comes out of the dryer, too.
