Palahniuk's Rant
Has anyone read Rant?  I had to give up on the audiobook version.  I think it just didn’t suit the format.  There’s also the chance that it’s just no good.  But I think about it sometimes and wonder if I should find a normal paperback of it and give it another shot.

Soju Want To Do Some Shots...
I just learned that there’s special ettiquete for the pouring and drinking of soju, Korean sweet potato vodka.  Soju is the worst drink I’ve ever had more than one of.  Knowing that there’s a special way of holding the glass, and touching your elbow when you pour it, makes me wonder what else I’ve been shorting of ceremony.  Getting into a VW Rabbit? Stepping over...

Oldest Penny
Just won a heady ten-minute game of who has the oldest penny in their penny jar.  Blew away the so-called competition with a 1934 wheat penny.  The closest my opponent came was 1961. My penny is worth 25 cents.  I’m the king of a very, very small hill. If you’re going to play this game at home, might I suggest you bet a dollar each at the outset?  Proceeds from wagers will be worth...

Everyone's fine now
Had a scary moment getting the kid out of her carseat, car parked on the snowy, sloped driveway. Car started to slide back toward the two-lane street, dragging me along with the open door.  I tried to brace my feet and stop the car.  Six feet or so, and it stopped.  Did I stop it, or would it have stopped on its own?  Should I have been focusing on unstrapping the carseat and pulling my daughter...

Boip boip boip / Limma winna
That’s my login info for a site that I used once about two weeks ago.  I can’t remember the URL though and its function is so generic that no search terms could find it. So, I feel kind of bad because I was pretty pleased with that username and password.

luckyshirt: I just braided my daughter’s hair perfectly and now I know how Fiddy Cent felt when he got hit in the face with a SCUD missile then stood right back up and found a jar of peanut butter that someone had just opened but hadn’t yet taken any of the peanut butter out of. Victory. My kid won’t let me near her with so much as a hair tie.

Scissors is a messed up word
Mark Twain wrote that his aunt, who wouldn’t consult a dictionary, came up with seven ways to spell it. http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=2831 Should be sizzers, right? Unless you’re from England, where the rhotic -R is not pronounced so it’s sizzas, and what must those English people think of the spelling of half the words in their own blasted language? Scissors’...

Everyone.  It was a short series, but thanks for your support. That was the last episode.  May they all rest in peace. Amen. Closing narration for Cowboy Bebop episode 11 (of 26)

Heratamus's Squire
Heratamus’s squire came from a culture that worshiped sleep. They had no pantheon nor any concept of a personal anthropomorphic deity, but were deeply devout regarding the concept of nightly rest. In Heratamus’s squire’s land, every year on your birthday, your pillow grew. Old people slept entirely on their pillows, and were buried on them when they died. Heratamus killed a...

Real Life Spoilers
Watching some dolts on utood doing rapid-fire spoilers of movies, I clicked what I thought was a link for “Real Life Spoilers”.  It turned out to actually be for Reality TV shows. Still, I couldn’t help wondering what would constitute a real life spoiler. I started to make a list here but found it depressing. Maybe it’s better to be surprised.

Canola oil
comes from rape. From the Latin rapum, turnip.  Rape is a yellow flower. Wild rapeseed oil is too acidic to eat.  Since rape is also another thing, the Canadian scientists who developed the edible variety called it canola: “CANadian Oil. Low Acid.” When my wife asked me the other night what a canola was, I guessed an ugly fish.

I Don't Like Carrie Fisher
We recently watched Drop Dead Fred and I was surprised to find I just really hated Carrie Fisher in it.  A few nights ago, I was trying to watch The ‘Burbs and as soon as I saw her name in the opening credits, all will to point my eyeballs at the TV slipped away so totally that I was in a bit of despair since I’ve been having trouble getting to sleep because of these darn seasonal...
